Ephesus and Sirince Village Tour itinerary
You will meet your guide in front of the Tourism Information Office, opposite the exit gate of Kuşadası Port. Or in a Hotel. We will inform you of the guide's name and phone number. After the meeting, you will begin your tour of Ephesus, located 20 km away.
Ephesus is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and recognised as the best-preserved classical city in the Mediterranean, as well as the second-largest city of the Roman Empire. As you walk through the marble streets adorned with statues and columns, you will get a sense of living history. We will enter through the Magnesia gate and explore the ruins of the ancient Roman capital, passing by the Odeon, the Celsus library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Trajan Fountain, and the Grand Theatre, which has a capacity of 24,000 people. St. Paul is believed to have spoken to the Ephesians in this theatre.
After the tour, we will take a lunch break at a local restaurant.
Next, we will visit the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis, and the village of Sirince.
The House of the Virgin Mary is situated in a lush forest at the summit of Bülbül Mountain, 7 km from Ephesus. It is said that the Virgin Mary came to Ephesus with St. John and spent the last years of her life there. In 1967, Pope Paul VI visited the house where the Virgin Mary was said to have lived. He confirmed the truth of the legend and recognised this small house. Years later, Pope John Paul II declared the House of the Virgin Mary a place of refuge and pilgrimage for Christians.
The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was situated in a flat area of Ephesus. Centuries later, it became a swamp, and today only the foundations of this magnificent Hellenistic structure remain visible.
Sirince Village: One of the charming corners of the Aegean Region, Şirince Village is 12 km away from the Selçuk district of Izmir. This village, renowned for its 300-year-old Greek and Ottoman houses, narrow streets, olive trees, orchards, and wines, is a quintessential Aegean village. While strolling through the Village, you can taste delicious local dishes and local fruit wines, and if requested, you can visit a village house by getting availability in advance.
** The Ayasuluk Hill area is unique because the temples of three different religions are side by side.
Selçuk has places of worship representing three religions in the same place.
1 - Temple of Artemis of Ephesus: Temple built in the name of Artemis, the goddess of fertility and abundance, representing Paganism before Jesus. 550 BC
2 - Church of Saint John, one of the symbolic churches of Christianity. 548 - 565 AD
3 - İsabey Mosque, a place of worship for Muslims. 1375 AD
These three places of worship are indicators of the richness of civilisations in Asia Minor and Ephesus.
