We’ll start the day with a healthy breakfast to fuel our full-day excursion in Cappadocia with the group.
Cappadocia Tour will start at 09:30 and we’ll visit Paşabağı Valley as the first stop of our day. Here, you can observe lots of fairy chimneys that were carved and used as chapels by early Christians. Next, we will visit the Uçhisar Castle, situated at the highest point of Cappadocia, shaped by flowing volcanic lavas, and the Pigeon Valley. Afterward, we will go to the Devrent Valley famous for its rock formations resembling different animal figures, thus it is also known as the Valley of Dreams. Afterward, we’ll be heading towards Göreme village, a settlement with houses and chapels carved in volcanic stones. Today, several of them can be visited as tourist attractions.
We will have lunch in a local restaurant and depart for a pottery atelier to see how pottery masters create works of art with traditional kick wheels using the clay from River Kızılırmak. Here, you can also purchase some pieces on display. Next, we will drive to Göreme Open Air Museum to see its fantastic monasteries and chapels like Dark Church, Apple Church, Snake Church, and St. Barbara Church. In these churches, we will see depictions and figures from the Old and New Testament on the walls, well-preserved frescos, and icons from the iconoclastic period. Our tour will end here with the hotel transfer. You’ll have time to rest and refreshen before joining a Turkish Night in the evening at a great music hall in a cave with traditional dance shows.
Accommodation in Cave Hotel. (Breakfast – Lunch)
After breakfast, you will meet our guide at the lobby to discover more places in Cappadocia. We will first visit Kaymaklı Underground City. The first inhabitants of the region began making shelters out of the soft rocks around 3000 BC, building complex underground cities to protect themselves from wild animals and their enemies. These cities were kept secure with rolling stone doors with special mechanisms, which were ahead of their time. They were often used by early Christians in the Roman period against Roman soldiers’ attacks. An amazing example of underground cities, Kaymaklı had a well-functioning ventilation system that reached all rooms, tunnels, stairways, kitchens, storages, and wine cellars throughout the city. Do not forget that all these units were excavated by using primitive hand tools.
Afterward, we will have lunch in a local restaurant and continue on our tour with Red Valley dotted with fairy chimneys stretching to a 3-kilometer area. Next, we will visit Çavuşin Village and Selime Monastery. In the village, you can find specially designed rings, necklaces, bracelets, and ornaments decorated with regional stones. Our tour will end here at 18:00 and you will be transported to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation at Cave Hotel. (Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner)
