DATCA - Mugla

The Caria region is where the ancient Carians lived, located in the southwestern part of Anatolia, between Lake Köyceğiz and the Menderes River. This region also includes the Datça Peninsula and is part of the Aegean Region in Turkey.

Around 1000 BC, the southern part of Caria was invaded by the Dorians, who established the Dorian Hexapolis consisting of six cities: Cnidos (near Datça), Halicarnassus (modern-day Bodrum), Kos (a Greek island), Kamiros, Lindos, and Ialissos (the last three were located in Rhodes). Knidos was the central city of this urban union and had a remarkably efficient political and economic system for its time.
